About IIPS
A Home for Indonesia’s Process Safety Community The Indonesian Institute for Process Safety (IIPS) is an independent professional organization that brings together practitioners, academics, professionals, industry, and other stakeholders to collectively advance process safety in Indonesia. Through knowledge, competency development, research, and collaboration, IIPS contributes to building Indonesian industries that are safer, more reliable, more resilient, and globally competitive.

The Indonesian Institute for Process Safety (IIPS) is an independent, non-profit professional organization that serves as a common platform for practitioners, academics, professionals, industry, and other stakeholders committed to strengthening process safety in Indonesia.
IIPS promotes knowledge development and dissemination, professional competency development, research and scientific publications, as well as cross-sector collaboration to advance process safety practices grounded in science, data, and engineering principles.
IIPS also serves as a bridge connecting industry, academia, government, and the professional community, while fostering the development of process safety knowledge, practices, standards, and policies that are relevant to Indonesia and aligned with global developments.
IIPS is committed to continuously building Indonesia’s process safety capabilities, contributing to the prevention of major accidents, and helping create Indonesian industries that are safer, more reliable, more resilient, and globally competitive.
Mission
- Promote Standardization and Industry Best Practices. To provide development programs, technical assistance, and promote the institutionalization of process safety management systems to help high-risk industries optimally mitigate the risk of catastrophic incidents.
- Provide Inclusive and Multidisciplinary Education. To develop training programs, seminars, scientific publications, and collaborative forums that bring together multiple disciplines to accelerate the dissemination of process safety knowledge among practitioners, academics, and the wider community.
- Provide Objective Scientific Studies and Critical Information. To serve as an independent and trusted institution in providing technical analysis, lessons learned from industrial incidents, and credible science-based education for the public.
- Develop Globally Competitive Professional Competencies. To provide a platform for professional certification, continuing professional development, and internationally benchmarked competency standards to develop outstanding Indonesian practitioners capable of becoming global benchmarks.
- Advocate for National Safety Policies and Regulations. To actively serve as a strategic partner to the government by contributing expertise, technical knowledge, and scientific studies to the development of laws, regulations, and national standards related to process safety.
IIPS HISTORY
Our History
The journey of the Indonesian Institute for Process Safety (IIPS) began in 2003, when a community of young Indonesian engineers shared a common concern: Indonesia needed to develop its own knowledge and capabilities in process safety.
Through interactions on professional mailing lists, the initiators began exchanging knowledge, discussing developments in process safety, and working to make international references more accessible and easier to understand for Indonesian professionals.
At a time when major projects in Indonesia still relied heavily on foreign expertise for process safety, an important aspiration emerged that would become one of the foundations of IIPS: intellectual sovereignty — building Indonesia’s own capability to understand, develop, and apply process safety.
This shared aspiration eventually grew into an organization that was formally established on 24 September 2004 as the Indonesian Institute for Process Safety (IIPS).
Over the years, IIPS experienced a period of reduced activity as many of its early members and initiators pursued their respective professional careers.
Today, IIPS is entering a new chapter of revitalization and regeneration, carrying forward the spirit of its founders: to strengthen Indonesia’s process safety capabilities and pass that spirit on to future generations.
